How we do it

Behind the scenes

  • Technology

ANALYSE.Lift combines our own analysis orchestration system Tailor, with state-of-the-art web technology to deliver a unique web app for lift analysis, all securely deployed in the AWS cloud. With OrcaFlex as the solver and python for automation and web integration, we provide a platform for quick automated analyses of lifting operations. Automation is made possible through parameterization of physics models and bespoke software for solver integration, design exploration and documentation.

  • Team

100+ years experience in marine hydrodynamics and comprehensive knowledge within automation of marine operations through software development.

  • Physics

The lifted objects hydrodynamics are modelled in accordance with DNV RP-C205 and DNV RP-N103. The vessel is modelled using displacement RAOs, describing the motion of the vessel as a response to incoming waves. The complete system dynamics are solved with the help of OrcaFlex.

Reference Projects

What kinds of lifts are covered by the service?

Lifts of objects through the splash zone or in the water column.

How are vessel motions covered by the service?
Our vessel implementation covers displacement RAOs only, meaning that the accuracy is high for lifts of objects weighing less than 2% of the vessel displacement. For lifts of heavier objects (heavy lifts) we recommend using load RAOs. We can provide engineering services for heavy lifts, but we may need more time than 1 day.
If you don’t have vessel RAOs we can use (generic) RAOs from our vessel library.

What kinds of objects are covered by the service?

The object will be modelled either as a box or a suction anchor, both with arbitrary drag and added mass coefficients, perforation rates and rigging. We will perform a sanity check of the rigging and confirm with you before going ahead if we see something unexpected. In cases with more complicated objects you can send us the Orcaflex model and we will include it in the lifting system if it runs reasonably fast. No inner forces are extracted from the object structure. Examples of objects that can be modelled as a box: Manifolds, Mudmats, Protection covers, ROVs, PLEMs, PLETSs, UTAs, Plates, Subsea Baskets, Subsea Tooling

FAQ

When does the 1-day period begin?

To get going you need to provide us with all necessary inputs and a PO. The 1-day delivery starts when all the inputs are provided. We will do a sanity check of the input and get in touch in case anything looks suspect. A list of necessary inputs will be sent by mail.

What input is needed?
As an absolute minimum we need the type of object to be lifted and the principle dimensions as well as general information about the installation vessel.
If some data is missing or not defined yet we can perform educated assumptions. The figure below gives and overview of the desired information:
